Radon Mitigation & Foundation Crack Repair in Ottawa, Ontario
Challenge
A homeowner in Ottawa was concerned about high levels of radon in their basement, along with cracks in the foundation that needed attention.
Because radon is an invisible, naturally occurring gas that can enter a home through openings in the foundation, addressing both the elevated radon levels and the foundation cracks was an important part of improving the basement environment.
The homeowner wanted a solution that would address the radon concern while also repairing and sealing the existing foundation cracks.
Our team assessed the basement and identified the areas requiring attention, including the foundation cracks and the need for a dedicated radon mitigation system.
The goal was to create a system that would actively draw radon from beneath the home's foundation and safely vent it outside, while also reinforcing and sealing the foundation cracks.
Solution
Our crews completed both radon mitigation and foundation crack repairs as part of the project. The existing foundation crack was repaired using crack stitches and FlexiSpan. Crack stitches provide reinforcement across the cracked area, helping stabilize the surrounding foundation. FlexiSpan was then used as part of the crack repair to create a flexible seal designed to accommodate minor movement while helping prevent water from entering through the repaired crack.
With the work completed, the homeowner now has a dedicated radon mitigation system in place along with a professionally repaired and sealed foundation crack.
The addition of the noise cancelling muffler also helps keep the mitigation system quieter during operation.
By addressing both the elevated radon concern and the foundation crack during the same project, our team was able to provide the homeowner with a more complete solution and greater peace of mind about their basement.
