Basement Waterproofing & Moisture Control
Challenge
A homeowner wanted to take proactive steps to waterproof their basement and better protect their home from water and moisture concerns.
The project involved addressing water management around the basement perimeter while also improving moisture control, insulation, and the overall condition of the basement walls and floor.
The homeowner was looking for a comprehensive solution rather than a single waterproofing measure, so our crews developed a system designed to manage water while also improving the basement environment.
Our team assessed the basement and identified several areas where improvements could be made to help collect and manage water, provide reliable sump pump protection, and control moisture and humidity.
The project also provided an opportunity to replace the existing concrete floor and improve the basement's wall and insulation systems.
The goal was to create a multi layered basement waterproofing and moisture control system that would work together to help keep the basement drier and better protected.
Solution
Our crews installed 165 linear feet of WaterGuard around the basement perimeter.
WaterGuard is designed to collect water at the foundation perimeter and direct it toward the sump pump system, helping prevent water from accumulating on the basement floor. The project also included 10 WaterGuard Ports, providing access points to the drainage system for inspection and maintenance.
To provide reliable water removal, our crews installed a TripleSafe sump pump system along with one SuperSump.
The TripleSafe system provides multiple levels of sump pump protection, while the additional SuperSump provides another dedicated pumping solution for the basement.
An IceGuard discharge protection system was also installed to help protect the sump pump discharge line from becoming blocked by freezing conditions.
This helps support the overall drainage system during Ottawa area winters and other cold weather conditions.
As part of the project, the existing concrete basement floor was removed and replaced with a new concrete floor.
Replacing the floor allowed the crew to complete the necessary waterproofing and drainage work beneath the floor while leaving the homeowner with a new, clean concrete surface once the work was completed.
Our crews installed 206.25 linear feet of CleanSpace wall system. CleanSpace helps create a moisture resistant barrier along the basement walls and is designed to help direct moisture toward the drainage system while providing a cleaner, more finished appearance.
To further improve the finished basement environment, the project included 141 linear feet of Basement to Beautiful wall panels.
These panels provide a clean, finished appearance while being designed specifically for basement environments.
A sani dry Sedona dehumidifer was also installed to help control excess humidity within the basement. By removing moisture from the air, the dehumidifier complements the waterproofing and wall systems and helps maintain a drier, more comfortbable basement environment.
Finally, our crews installed 165 linear feet of rim joist insulation. Insulating the rim joists helps improve the thermal performance of the basement and can help reduce drafts and temperature fluctuations around the perimeter of the home.
with the project complete, the homeowner now has a coprehensive basement waterproofing and moisture control system designed to manage water while also improving the comfort and appearance of the basement.
The combination of 165 linear feet of waterguard, 10 waterguard ports, triple safe, supersump, ice guard, cleanspace, sani dry sedona, rim joist insulation and new concrete flooring provides multiple layers of protection and moisture management.
The addition of basement to beautiful wall panels also gives the basement a cleaner more finished appearance.
By addressing drainage, sump pump protection, wall moisture, humidity, insulation, and the basement floor as apart of one project, our crews helped transform the space into a drier, better protected and more comfortable basment.
