Basement foundation waterproofing in Ottawa
Challenge
A homeowner in Orleans, Ottawa needed help with an existing window well that required replacement.
Window wells play an important role in protecting below grade windows from surrounding soil and water. When an existing window well needs to be replaced, proper excavation and drainage are important to help manage water around the window and foundation.
The homeowner wanted to replace the existing window well and ensure the new installation was properly connected to the home's drainage system.
Our team assessed the existing window well and determined that the area would need to be excavated to access and remove the existing installation.
The crew excavated approximately 6 feet down to reach the necessary depth and safely remove the existing window well.
The new installation was also planned to tie into the home's existing exterior weeping tile system, helping provide a pathway for water to drain away from the window well.
Solution
Our crews excavated approximately 6 feet down around the existing window well. Once the area was properly excavated, the existing window well was removed, making room for the new installation.
A new window well was installed to replace the existing one. The new installation was properly positioned around the basement window and integrated into the surrounding drainage system. As part of the installation, the new window well was tied into the home's existing exterior weeping tile.
Connecting the window well to the drainage system helps provide a dedicated pathway for water collected around the window well to be directed away from the foundation.
With the project complete, the homeowner now has a newly installed window well connected to the home's exterior drainage system. By excavating to the necessary depth, removing the existing window well, installing a new one, and tying it into the weeping tile, our crews provided a comprehensive solution designed to help manage water around the basement window.
The completed installation gives the homeowner a properly integrated window well and improved confidence in the drainage around this area of their home.
