Stabilizing a Settling Foundation in Orléans, Ottawa
Challenge
A homeowner in Orléans, Ottawa, contacted our team after noticing signs of foundation trouble in their home. A crack had developed in the foundation wall. In addition to the crack in the foundation, the home began to settle by approximately two inches from the back of the house to the front, which can lead to structural issues if left unaddressed, as it already started to show signs of. The homeowner was also concerned about the stability of their balcony, which needed additional structural support.
Solution
After a detailed inspection, our System Design Specialist created a comprehensive solution to address both the cracked foundation concerns and the structural settlement.
First, our production crew repaired the foundation crack and waterproofed the exterior of the affected area to prevent any potential water intrusion. To stabilize the home and prevent further settlement, the team installed 6 helical piers along the foundation. These piers are driven deep into stable soil layers beneath the home, providing reliable long term support and helping stop the settling process.
To reinforce the balcony structure, the crew also installed 2 smart jacks beneath the balcony. These adjustable steel supports help provide additional stability and ensure the structure remains safe and properly supported.
With the crack repaired, the foundation waterproofed, and the structural supports installed, the homeowner can now feel confident that their home is protected from further settlement and water intrusion.
Thanks to the expertise of our team and the use of proven structural support systems, this Orleans home now has a stronger, more stable foundation and reinforced structural support for years to come!
