Radon Mitigation system installation - Ottawa
Challenge
Our customer contacted us after discovering elevated radon levels in their home during a routine indoor air quality test. Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, poses serious health risks when concentrations are high indoors. The homeowner was concerned for the safety and well-being of their family and sought a permanent, reliable solution.
Testing revealed that radon levels were well above Health Canada's recommended action level of 200 Bq/m³ (or 4.0 pCi/L in the U.S. standard). Immediate mitigation was needed to reduce the radon levels and create a safer living environment.
Solution
Our team conducted a full assessment of the home’s foundation and basement to identify any visible cracks, gaps, or penetrations that could allow radon to seep into the living spaces.
We then:
-
Sealed all visible cracks, joints, and openings in the foundation floor and walls using professional-grade sealants designed specifically for radon resistance.
-
Installed a radon mitigation system, consisting of a sub-slab depressurization unit, designed to actively draw radon from beneath the home and safely vent it above the roofline, away from living areas.
Post-installation testing showed a dramatic reduction in radon levels, bringing them well below the recommended safety threshold. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing their family is protected from the harmful effects of radon exposure.
By sealing entry points and installing a properly designed mitigation system, we successfully transformed a high-risk environment into a safe and healthy home. This project highlights the importance of professional assessment and expert installation when dealing with radon concerns.
